The Four Seasons course at La Colinas, in Texas hosts the event again, named after one of the greats of yesteryear. The Par 70 course plays to a substantial 7,166 yards, which could play longer as rain is forecast the first days before the calmer weekend. The greens here are notably undulating, with slopes and hollows in many greens. Water is extensively in play on many holes and accurate iron play is the order of the day. The wind can blow a bit here and players who have a proven low flight to their shots have a definite advantage. It’s a decent field this week, with Jordan Spieth heading the market and striving to find his game after an unexpected shabby display last week, as well as regulars Dustin Johnson and Matt Kucher prominent in the betting.

At near the top of the field, I have to include Johnson in the staking plan, as he has produced many fine performances here over the years. This is underlined by his four top-eight finishes in his last five finishes, and he has a powerful but consistent low shots that are ideal around this course. As mentioned before I think these rain softened fairways will suit the bombers, and for his length of the tee, he has been remarkably accurate at this course. Whilst he didn’t ever get in contention at the Players, his game looks in fairly consistent nick, with four top fives in his last six events. He looks a fair E/W price this week, and whilst single digit odds are a little tight, he can be a good cover for our other bets.
