For golf fans, this will always been known as the ‘Colonial’ and definitely is easier on the ear than the Dean & Deluca, ten points if you know what they sell. It’s a real old-fashioned course situated in Texas, it is not overlong at 7,204 yards and will suit the real ball strikers in the field. It’s a Par 70 course, with only two Par 5s and the premium is on accuracy, as the course is heavily tree lined with a liberal amount of bunkers guarding the greens. The greens themselves are some of the smallest on the PGA tour and I have to say it’s really refreshing to see a course that doesn’t play to the usual advantages of the modern day bombers.

It’s not a stellar field, but the field’s quality is lifted by the likes of Spieth, Scott & Kucher turning up. Which Spieth will be seen this week? He drove dreadfully last week and another poor week will have the alarms ringing loudly, it would be quite a turnaround to envisage him winning this week – claiming the substantial prize fund and one of the worst tartan jackets known to man. A real throwback when you had to look a pimp from the 1970s Starsky & Hutch episode to play golf. It looks like another weather-threatened event and a Monday finish is not out of the question.

Kuchar has been in sensational form lately and has been knocking on the door for some time. He played some lovely golf last week and was hitting the ball very solidly. He has had two third-placed finishes in the last two weeks and as always with Kuch, the problem is trying to pick him when he gets over the winning line. But it’s a field that lacks real quality and he won’t have much better chances than this week to win. He was runner-up here in 2013 and the course obviously should suit.
