The Par 72 7,350yd Palmer Course at the K Club demands accuracy, good course management, and players with solid Greens in Regulation(GIR)stats. With unsettled conditions and quite a bit of wind forecast for the four days(15-20mph), previous course experience may prove to be an advantage, and draw bias could also be a factor. It should be considered that plenty of the younger fancied contenders, including the tournament host, have no real competitive experience around this track.

Graeme McDowell 30-1 E/W(6 places) Betfred

Another player desperate to automatically qualify for the 2016 Ryder Cup team in Hazeltine is Graeme McDowell, who arrives here off the back of a fast finishing Tied 9th place finish at Sawgrass last week. His two weekend scores of 69 around such a tough track, that was set up particularly brutal on Saturday, shows this gritty character is returning to decent form for this important part of the season.

He started the PGA wraparound season in fine style with a win at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, and a third-place finish the following week in the RSM Classic, but his overall form since then has been decidedly patchy. The Irishman did, however, post a fifth place finish at the high-quality Honda Classic at the backend of March on a challenging windy layout, which should hold him in good stead for this week’s tough examination. He has a bit of course form around here, so hopefully last week’s momentum will be carried over to this week’s gig over the pond.
