Golf returns to the Olympics for the first time since 1904 and many think it doesn’t belong as it doesn’t have the gravitas of a major for many of these millionaires, and should have been for true amateurs. My guess is that not many will be motivated which is an important factor in deciding this week’s golf betting tips.

It’s the same format of an individual 72 hole stroke play event which came as a shock to Matt Kuchar, who has been under the impression it’s a team event. He’ll be even more shocked, no doubt when he doesn’t get his usual pay check for his top ten!

The course has been specially built for this event and appears to have a bit of a links feel as it can be quite windy at this time of the year. Many are comparing it to the sand belts of Australia and Doral has also been mentioned, mainly because of the amount of sand in play and the openness of the course with no trees in evidence.

Mens Olympic Golf Betting Tips

Rickie Fowler 14/1 E/W Sky Bet (5 Places) It's going to be hard to back anyone with firm confidence but I feel that Fowler's game should suit this course. If he can locate his form he will be motivated to get a misfiring season back on track. He has played links type golf courses in the past and has the shots to play in windy conditions. His form has been very patchy, but there was evidence at the PGA Championship that he was starting to get his game back together. Justin Rose 12/1 E/W Sky Bet (5 places) Rose has been taking this event seriously and has been over to the course for over week. He will know the layout better than most and has a real motivation to compete as his season has been severely interrupted with a bad back and wants to salvage something from the year. An errant putter has always been Rose's Achilles heal but the wind could really cause problems here and a hot putter might not be the main requirement. I feel solid ball striking will be needed and Rose is very consistent when on form. Jaco Van Zyl E\W 100/1 Sky Bet (5 Places) Van Zyl is a definite talent and this popular South African has been trying to peak for this week. He has already stated that the Olympics has been his main aim this year and he has been focused on this event for some time now. He's a very streaky putter, very motivated and seems to have been overlooked at this price. Hopefully, he will go well this week.
