Golf Betting Tips – Players Championship

Free golf betting tips for the Players Championship held at TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida. The Players returns to its now traditional slot in May and this Pete Dye 7,215 yards Par 72 course is sure to offer another enthralling spectacle. Even with all the WGC events of the last view years, this event still in my opinion is only second to the four majors. As ever the knee knocking Par 3 17th is the iconic island hole that is made for tv viewing, and will no doubt wreck a few cards again this year. Its a long walk from the 16th green to the 17th tee, which gives the players just enough time to think about the shot. Some like the challenge, others you can see the colour visibly drain from there face. It’s great to watch.

The course itself is a real test of ball striking and suits players who have good iron approaches to the green with a handy scrambling game to back up any errant shots. Players have to have a good week with the flat stick, as the greens are generally hard  and fast and difficult to read. There’s generally plenty of room of the tee, so driving accuracy or distance is not the main requirement this week.  The weather this week is set to be fine all week, with long sunny spells and wind only up to a speed on 10 mph.

Players Championship betting tips

Rory McIlroy 10/1 E/W (7 Places) Betfair

This first of our golf tips is Rory McIlroy who been progressively making inroads at Sawgrass and it would be amiss if a win does not appear on his CV at some point. Whilst his long driving will not be as beneficial here as other courses, he has shown that his iron play is starting to look sharper than earlier in the season. He has showed he can go low here, with a 64 last year, and I would be surprised if he can’t get in the top seven places. It’s a real bonus when it doesn’t blow, as I feel even though he grew up in windy Ireland, his best form is in relatively benign conditions. Hopefully Garcia’s Masters will spur on the fellow European, and the recently married Rory has said he’s in a very good place in his life on and off course. Also he’s just reportedly signed a 100 million contract with Taylormade, I think I would smiling like the Joker all week.

Sergio Garcia 18/1 E/W Betfair

The reigning Masters champion is the second golf betting tip. It’s a little annoying that pre Masters that we said he may be due a major this year, and then to go and win when we are not on him, but thats betting for you. It’s taking a small chance betting on him this week, as it’s unknown how motivated he is after winning the Masters, but it’s likely that he may come with a super confident attitude and believe that he finally belongs with the best. His record is stellar here, and the course obviously suits him. He won in 2008, and has a host of 2nd’s and top tens.

Tommy Fleetwood 9/2 Betfred (Top Twenty Market)

The last of this week’s free golf tips is Tommy Fleetwood who has been hugely impressive this year. He has been driving consistently and has a good iron game to complement. He’s has been a little ropey with the putter in previous years, but he has definitely found something in his putting game this Spring. I think the faster greens in America may actually suit him, as he doesn’t worry as much about the speed, but the lines. Hopefully this added confidence will continue and he should give us a good run for our money.
