Qipco 1000 Guineas third Alice Springs heads the betting for Sunday’s French equivalent, run at Deauville on this occasion, but at around 3-1 Aidan O’Brien’s filly makes little appeal on her overall form and a much better value bet lies with the William Haggas-trained Besharah at a double figure price.

One of last season’s leading juveniles of her sex, the daughter of Kodiac ran out a most impressive winner of York’s Group 2 Lowther Stakes before finishing a close third in Newmarket’s Cheveley Park Stakes on her final start of the season – three quarters of a length in front of Alice Springs in fourth spot.

The big doubt surrounding Besharah is her ability to last out the mile trip but she was doing all her best work at the finish on her reappearance when third on Chelmsford’s all-weather surface over 7f. With top French jockey Christophe Soumillon booked it is worth chancing the filly’s stamina as her two-year-old form is as good as anything on offer.

Fellow British raider Nathra looked to have her limitations exposed at Newmarket behind Minding and company leaving home challengers Qemah and Come Alive as the chief dangers. The former was an easy winner of a Group 3 on her reappearance while the latter is unbeaten in two starts for master trainer Andre Fabre.
