Horse Racing Tip – 3.10 Wincanton 10-05-16

Tuesday’s Flat racing at Beverley and Chepstow makes for limited appeal so it’s off to Wincanton for the nap in the Montague Inn Handicap Chase at 3.10. The three-mile-one-furlong contest sees the reappearance of last year’s winner Ruapehu but the ten-year-old has not been easy to train and makes little appeal to record back-to-back victories.

The Paul Nicholls-trained top-weight Minellahalfcentury has proved a big disappointment for the leading stable since winning at Chepstow in December 2014 and, while well treated on his best form, has shown no signs of a possible revival this season. Kilbree Lad is another contender who has slipped to an attractive mark but consistency is hardly a strong point with the mount of Paddy Brennan and the likely favourite is worth opposing with  Flight Commander at the 3-1 generally available.

The son of Oscar will be having just his fifth start over fences and does not look badly treated off a mark of 118 for in-form trainer Oliver Sherwood. Outclassed on his first start over the bigger obstacles behind the likes of Samatagal and Three Musketeers at Huntingdon last November, Leighton Aspell’s mount put that experience to good use when taking a Limited Handicap on that course three month’s later.

The seven-year-old has failed to add to that victory in two subsequent starts but this poor contest looks there for the taking and it will be disappointing if Flight Commander can’t see off some out of form rivals.
