Horse Racing Tip – 3.45 Chester 04-05-16
Chester’s May meeting gets underway on Wednesday featuring the Betway Chester Cup at 3.10 which looks as open a renewal as there has been in recent years. Unexposed types such as Gang Warfare and Steve Rogers are hard to assess but may struggle to beat Irish raider Silver Concorde should Dermot Weld’s runner run up to his best from stall 9.
It is the following sprint handicap at 3.45 however which makes more appeal for a decent value bet – that being the David Nicholls-trained Kimberella from stall 3, in a race where a low draw is almost essential.
The six-year-old has the services of specialist Chester jockey Franny Norton and looks thrown in on his best form off a mark of 87. Beaten just a head when trying to give 2lb to subsequent Ayr Gold Cup winner Don’t Touch in Ripon’s Great St Wilfrid the course and distance winner’s July 2014 form tailed off towards the end of the season but a revival looked on the cards following a good seasonal reappearance at Ripon last month.
Racing alone on the far side, Kimberella looked the likely winner approaching the final furlong until it became clear that the stand-side group had the advantage but there should be no such excuses on this occasion from a favourable berth. Richard Fahey’s Growl, drawn next door in 4, looks the biggest danger.
