Horse Racing Tip – 3.55 Kempton 02-05-16
It may be a bank holiday but the Flat racing on offer in Britain at Beverley, Bath and Windsor hardly sets the pulse racing leaving the action taking place in Ireland at the Curragh the most interesting on the level but from a betting perspective it is the 15-runner P J Tiernan’s 80th Birthday Handicap Chase at Kempton which appeals most.
The three mile contest at 3.55pm has attracted a decent field including the Mick Channon-trained Warden Hill who should come on for his recent run at Cheltenham, the gelding’s first for a year. While Opening Batsman, Gallery Exhibition, Court By Surprise and Bob Tucker can all be given a chance on their best form but it is joint top weight Ziga Boy who is taken to get back to winning ways in the hands of Tom Bellamy.
The seven-year-old had threatened to win a decent handicap chase since joining trainer Alan King from France and that proved to be the case when the gelding ran out a convincing winner of Doncaster’s Great Yorkshire Chase back in January before attempting to follow up in the valuable BetBright Chase over Monday’s course and distance.
Ziga Boy was possibly made too much use of on that occasion, leading or disputing the lead until weakening in the last half a mile. More restraining tactics should see the son of Califet to better effect on a course that suits, especially as the horse will be fresher than most having bypassed both festivals at Cheltenham and Aintree.
