Horse Racing Tip – 4.10 Musselburgh 09-05-16

No trainer is better at taking advantage of a falling handicap mark than David O’Meara and the shrewd handler looks poised to strike this season with the so far disappointing Nonchalant who can take Musselburgh’s 4.10 race on Monday despite the burden of top weight.

The ex-Dermot Weld inmate had his first start for O’Meara at Ripon just over 12 months ago off a mark of 90, a rating which has been in gradual decline due to a number of uninspiring performances, so much so that the five-year-old runs off a modest 75 at the Scottish course in the extended 1m 4f handicap.

The mount of Daniel Tudhope’s best effort last season came when runner-up at Doncaster in July off a 3lb higher mark, a reproduction of which should be more than good enough to take this modest contest. The son of Oasis Dream looked to be running into form when fourth on his seasonal reappearance at the course last month, the grey’s first outing for seven months, so an improvement on that promising run looks virtually guaranteed.

A return to twelve furlongs looks ideal for Nonchalant who can open his account for O’Meara at the expense of recent Thirsk scorer McVicar.
