The concluding five furlong sprint handicap at Nottingham on Tuesday afternoon looks an open affair on paper but co top weight Lewisham must have a great chance of winning for the second time this season.

Despite running off a 10lb higher mark than when winning by six lengths over course and distance last month, the John Jenkins-trained six-year-old is still a massive 26lb lower than when beaten a nose at Doncaster back in 2013.

Since then the son of Sleeping Indian has been in the grip of the handicapper prior to finishing a creditable second on Wolverhampton’s all-weather surface back in February off a lowly 57. Now that the gelding had been allowed some respite the mount of Alistair Rawlinson is enjoying something of a form revival, most recently with a close third in a decent Chepstow contest.

With that promising apprentice claiming 3lb and from a decent draw in stall 13, Lewisham can continue his upward curve at the expense of likely favourite Classic Pursuit who is expected to improve on a promising first run for new trainer Ivan Furtado.

Orient Class is another potentially well-handicapped contender based on his Ayr victory in 2014 while More Spice should prove best of the three Robert Cowell runners.
