Horse Racing Tip – Perth 4.00pm
The highlight of the second day of the Perth Festival today is the £25,000 Kilmany Challenge Cup at 4pm in which the two horses at the head of the 2m 4f handicap – Just Cameron and Tennis Cap – are sure to prove popular with punters. The former has been set some pretty stiff tasks this season including when sixth in the Queen Mother Champion Chase while the latter represents the powerful stable of Willie Mullins – locked in a titanic battle for the trainers’ championship with Paul Nicholls.
Of the two top weights preference is for the Micky Hammond-trained nine-year-old who looked an unlucky loser at Kelso last time after making a serious mistake at a crucial stage. In receipt of over a stone however the mount of Joe Colliver may have to give best to the Mick Easterby inmate Saints And Sinners (also runs Shadows Lengthen) who will be fresher than most, having just his fourth start of the season and first since unseating his rider when sent off favourite for a competitive affair at Musselburgh on New Year’s Day.
The Gold Well gelding landed a hat-trick towards the back end of 2014 since when the eight-year-old has failed to trouble the judge but looked to be running into form when third behind the decent novice Javert and Topham Chase runner-up Fairy Rath at Doncaster in December, and off a 2lb lower mark at the Scottish venue can get off the mark for the season.
