La Liga preview – Levante vs Espanyol prediction.

Central defender Zouhair Feddal and midfielder Verza return for Levante having missed last weekend’s trip to Real Betis through suspension. Juanfran has been covering for the injured Tono at left-back but has been receiving treatment on a slight calf injury this week. Lucas Orban is on standby should the captain fail his fitness test. Pedro Lopez is set to continue at right-back while Ivan Lopez regains fitness after suffering a knee injury. Winger Ruben Garcia has recovered from a groin injury and is likely to start on the bench.

Espanyol winger Hernan Perez returns from suspension leaving full-back Anaitz Arbilla, who has not played this year, the only squad member unavailable. Manager Constantin Galca likes to tinker with the formation and there could be a few changes to the side defeated at home to Atletico last Saturday. Striker Gerard Moreno has been preferred to Felipe Caicedo lately. While Perez’ return could leave attacking midfielder Marco Asensio and defensive midfielder Oscar Duarte reliant on which way the team sets up.

Possible Line-ups

Levante 4-4-2 formation: Marino; Lopez, Feddal, Medjai, Juanfran; Lerma, Verza, Simoa, Verdu; Rossi, Deyverson

Espanyol 4-3-3 formation: Pau; Lopez, Gonzalez, Roco, Duarte; Abraham, Diop, Sanchez; Perez, Moreno, Asensio

Statistics

  • Espanyol have won 4 drawn 2 and lost 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Levante have scored an average of 0.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Espanyol have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 1.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Levante’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Espanyol’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Bottom-of-the-league Levante have only won one of the last seven and have picked up one point from the last three games. The have played five of the bottom seven clubs at home since early January, defeating Rayo, Las Palmas, Getafe and Valencia before drawing with Sporting Gijon most recently.

Espanyol inched away from the relegation zone after a run of four wins and two draws in seven games. However, last weekend’s defeat at home to Atletico means they may require another point or two to be safe. They have a tough run-in on paper so should be keen to get more points on the board as soon as possible.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only two teams to win at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia this year and Levante could have enough to win this one.
