The Ligue 1 title looks set to go to PSG but Lyon have their eyes on one of two remaining Champions League spots. Lyon current sit 4th in the league table and a comfortable 11 points ahead of 5th placed Nantes and so a Europa League spot should be the least they will achieve this season. However, with only 3 points between 2nd placed Marseille and Lyon in 4th, Bruno Génésio will urge his side to not slip up to grab one of the remaining two spots to join footballs elite teams next season.
Lyon looked on-course to secure a top-three finish, winning six from seven before suffering defeats away to Bordeaux and Monaco. However, Lyon’s home form has been excellent, losing just once in 19 matches across all competitions and picking up maximum points against the likes of Monaco, Marseille and Paris Saint Germain. They bounced back to winning ways in their latest outing with a 2-1 win against Montpellier in the Coupe de France which will give them some confidence going into this match on Sunday.
Bruno Génésio will have a full squad to choose from with the exception of Rafael who went off at halftime in the defeat to Bordeaux with Kenny Tete likely to step in as his replacement as he did against Monaco.
Rennes had a good start to the season but have suffered a string of defeats which has left them 10th in the league table and just six points above relegation. They’ve lost seven of their last ten across all competitions and haven’t showed any signs of improving. Diafra Sakho, who recently signed from West Ham, was given his debut in the 1-0 loss to Guingamp on Sunday but was unable to find the net. The Senegalese International will hope to grab his first goal for his new club on Sunday but will have to improve on his last display.
Left-back Ludovic Baal will miss the fixture after coming off injured against Guingamp with Ramy Bensebaini likely to take his place. Midfielder, Benjamin André will also miss the game after picking up another yellow card against Dijon and being suspended.
