Champions League preview – Lyon vs Valencia prediction

Lyon have a whole host of injury problems ahead of this game. Rafael, Nabil Fekir, Celement Grenier and Gueida Fofana are all definitely out. Bakary Kone, Henri Bedimo, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Alexandre Lacazette are all struggling to make it. Out of those close to making it, Hubert Fournier will be hoping Lacazette can start.

Valencia also have injury concerns, especially in the goalkeeping department as both Mat Ryan and Diego Alves are out injured. Andre Gomes and Jose Gaya are also on the injury list, meaning Lucas Orban could continue at left-back.

Possible Line-ups

Lyon: 4-3-1-2 formation: Lopes: Jallet, Bisevac, Umtiti, Bedimo; Ferri, Gonalons, Tolisso; Valbuena; Lacazette, Beauvue

Valencia: 4-3-3 formation: Juame; Cancelo, Mustafi, Abdennour, Orban; Parejo, Fuego, Perez; Feghouli, Negredo, Piatti

Prediction

Lyon have endured a troubled start to the 2015/16 season and this was evident in their first Champions League group game at Gent. Despite playing against 10 men for the whole of the second half, Lyon conceded an equalising goal and were forced to settle for a point. The club have lost 2 of their last 6 games but only 1 of the remaining 4 have been a win. The 3-1 defeat at Bordeaux on the weekend was less than ideal preparation.

Valencia have also had a mixed start to the season and their Champions League campaign got off to the worst possible start as they went down 3-2 to Zenit at home. Since that game, Valencia have played 3 league games and won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1. During that time they only conceded 2 goals but registered just a single goal themselves.

This is a tough one to call and form suggests there won’t be too many goals.
