Man United, in particular manager Jose Mourinho, have been on the end of quite a bit of criticism over the last few weeks. A number of fans, journalists and even ex players have spoke out about the style of football that The Red Devils were serving up. Add to that some poor results such as draws with Southampton, Leicester City and Burnley and a defeat to Bristol City in the League Cup and the pressure was on. They have since won their last two in all competitions though and things are looking up.

A number of big players returned from injury for the FA Cup win against Derby County, with Romelu Lukaku, Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini all available for selection. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are both expected to play, which would see Luke Shaw drop back to the bench. Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are out injured.

Stoke City are currently in the process of looking for a new manager after sacking Mark Hughes this week. Their poor run of form culminated with an embarrassing FA Cup exit away to League Two side Coventry City. Eddie Niedzwiecki has been appointed as caretaker manager until the club are able to find a permanent replacement for Hughes.

The sacking of Mark Hughes may mean a return to the club for Bojan, who is out on loan at the moment. For the trip to Old Trafford, Erik Peters, Glen Johnson and Ryan Shawcross face late fitness tests. Moritz Bauer is a new signing and could be thrown straight in to the starting 11. Jese is not expected to play for Stoke again, while Bruno Martins Indi is injured.

Man United vs Stoke City Prediction

Man United have a lot less injuries to deal with at the moment, which could be the reason for their upturn in form over the last couple of matches. They are not to the levels that they were at towards the beginning of the season but the Red Devils are getting better. They have now won back to back matches after going four games without a win.

Stoke on the other hand are in retched form, hence the sacking of Mark Hughes as their manager. They have lost 9 of their last 11 matches. It remains to be seen how the players are going to react to Eddie Niedzwiecki as caretaker manager, but I’m sure this is not the fixture that he would have wanted for his first game in temporary charge of The Potters.

Funnily enough, Stoke have a good record when playing on a Monday night in the Premier League, having only lost 5 from 18. However, Stoke have not won away to Manchester United since April 1976 and it would be a shock if that bad run ended here.

The tip is for Man United to claim the three points fairly comfortably. Stoke are expected to line up fairly defensively, so it may be a low scoring affair. 2-0 to Man United looks like good value.

The meeting between the two sides earlier in the season was extremely entertaining. The clash took place at Stoke’s bet365 Stadium in early September and ended in a hard fought 2-2 draw. It was the first time that Jose Mourinho’s Man United side had dropped points in the season. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored both the Potters’ goals, while Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku scored for United.

There have actually been quite a few draws between the two sides in the last few years. From the last 6 meetings between the sides, Man United have only won once, which was a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in February 2016. Stoke have also won once in the last 6, with the other 4 matches being draws.
