Manchester United vs Swansea City Preview

Manchester United host Swansea City on Saturday afternoon and will look to pick up three points to retain second spot in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho’s sides last defeat in the league was to the hands of Newcastle on February 2nd when they suffered a 1-0 loss at St James Park. Since then, they have picked up wins against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Liverpool, scoring at least two goals in each of those games. They were eliminated from the Champions League earlier this month by Sevilla which will allow Jose to focus on the league and although the title is all but out of reach now, he will want to make sure his side finish the season in second position. The Red Devils are still in the FA Cup, which will also be a priority for Mourinho. They meet Tottenham in the semi-finals in April which will be their last chance for silverware this season.

Mourinho will be without Daley Blind and Ander Herrera for Saturday’s game at Old Trafford and he may consider rotating his squad given that a number of his players were called away on International duty over the past week.

Swansea have seen huge improvement under boss Carlos Carvalhal. Since taking charge of the squad he has lifted them out of the bottom three and they now sit in 14th place in the league. The Swans are however only three points away from danger and more points are needed from their eight remaining games to ensure safety.

After going ten games unbeaten under Carvalhal, Swansea have now picked up just two wins in their last six matches. A recent 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham and a 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield won’t see them head into Saturday’s clash with a lot of confidence but their main concern will be their form on the road this season. Carvalhal’s side have picked up just one win in their last fifteen away games and given that United have picked up 38 points from a possible 45 at Old Trafford this season and conceded just 7 league goals on home turf, they’re going to find it tough to get anything from the game.

Leroy Fer, Angel Rangel, Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony all remain out for Swansea through injury while Jordan Ayew, who received a straight red in the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield earlier in the month, continues his suspension.

Manchester United vs Swansea City Predictions

Carlos Carvalhal has certainly picked things up at Swansea and at the current odds of 14/1, they could seem like a tempting outside punt. However, their form on the road this season has been exceptionally poor and they’ve failed to pick up any points when visiting top sides such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. Given Man Utd’s exceptional record at Old Trafford, a home win is more than likely and we expect Mourinho’s side to remain in second place for another week. United have the best defensive record at home in the Premier League and so our both teams to score tip won’t be on the game. United to win to nil will be a popular bet for this game.

Manchester United have won four of the last five meetings with Swansea with the other ending in a draw. The last match was in October of last year when a double by Jesse Lingard was enough to see United take away all three points from Liberty Stadium.

This fixture last season saw Swansea earn a point at Old Trafford when a penalty converted by Wayne Rooney just before halftime was cancelled out by Gylfi Sigurdsson in the 79th minute.
