Newcastle United vs Arsenal Preview

Newcastle have pulled away from the relegation zone with three consecutive victories and now the aim is for a top ten finish.

Rafa Benitez has no new injury concerns following the 2-1 win at Leicester last Saturday. Islam Slimani was ineligible to play at the King Power Stadium due to the terms of his loan deal and may be asked to start on the bench following last weekend’s result.

Arsenal progressed to last four of the Europa League which is now the Gunner’s best route to next season’s Champions League. Arsene Wenger will be focused on Europe and is expected to rotate his squad for the trip to Tyneside.

Wenger could be forced into one change after Aaron Ramsey received stitches in a leg wound in Moscow on Thursday. The Welsh midfielder continued through the full 90 minutes against CSKA but is unlikely to be risked at St James’ Park. Granit Xhaka should be ready to replace Ramsey after missing the midweek game through illness. Mohamed Elneny’s red card against Southampton has been rescinded and he should keep his pace in the middle of the park.

Calum Chambers is hopeful of starting in place of Laurent Koscielny who has been rested for Premier League games lately and Alex Iwobi could line up in place of Danny Welbeck.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal Prediction

There is no prizes for guessing how Rafa Benitez will approach this game. Newcastle will allow Arsenal the ball and hope to hit them on the counter attack. The ploy has been working for United lately and it’s one that has caught out Arsenal a number of times this season.

United’s confidence is high, they’ve only been beaten once since holding Burnley to a 1-1 draw at St James’ eight games ago. They are unbeaten in the last six at home, picking up maximum points in the last three against Manchester United, Southampton and Huddersfield.

Arsenal’s Premier League form has been a cause for concern at the Emirates with Wenger’s side looking at their lowest finish since 1995.

The Gunners have turned results around lately, winning their last three Premier League games, albeit they’ve all been at the Emirates. Their Europa League run appears to be spreading confidence throughout their play and the Gunners have now gone seven games unbeaten in all competitions, six of those being victories

Record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has found his feet since joining Arsenal in the January window and has scored six in seven appearances and has found the net in each of his last four Premier League games.

Goals have been coming thick and fast for the Gunners recently, they’ve scored three or more in each of the last matches. However, this looks like being a cagey affair in which Arsenal can emerge victorious with a single goal
