Serie A preview – Palermo vs Sassuolo prediction

Palermo are definitely without Michel Morganella and Francesco Bolzoni for the visit of Sassuolo. However, midfielder Oscar Hiljemark should be fit and will considered a vital part of the team having scored both goals against AC Milan at the weekend, to make it 3 for the season.

Sassuolo have to make do without the injured Luca Antei but on a more positive note, Sime Vrsaljko is available for selection after serving a suspension. However, the big team news for Sassuolo is the return to fitness of striker Domenico Berardi, who may start the game.

Possible Line-ups

Palermo: 4-3-1-2 formation: Sorrentino; Struna, Gonzalez, El Kaoutari, Lazaar; Hiljemark, Rigoni, Jajalo; Quaison; Vazquez, Gilardino

Sassuolo: 4-3-3 formation: Consigli; Vrsaljko, Cannavaro, Acerbi, Peluso; Missiroli, Magnanelli, Duncan; Berardi, Defrel, Sansone

Statistics

  • Palermo have won 8, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Sassuolo have won 6 and drawn 4 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Palermo have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sassuolo have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Palermo’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Sassuolo’s previous 10 matches
  • Sassuolo are undefeated in 9 Serie A matches

Prediction

Despite the defeat in Milan at the weekend, Palermo have started the season very well and twice came from behind against Milan, before losing the game 3-2. The team have been scoring goals and have found the back of the net at least once in every Serie A match this season but have also conceded 5 goals in their last 2 matches.

Sassuolo make the trip to Sicily in great form and will feel they should have taken maximum points at Roma on the weekend, having led twice. However, 2 wins and 2 draws from 4 matches leaves Sassuolo in a strong position in the early league table and they will feel confident of coming away from Palermo with at least a point.

This match could define exactly how good a start both of these teams have made this season. Having played away at the weekend, it may be too much for Sassuolo take all the 3 points but with Berardi back in their ranks, a point is certainly obtainable.
