Championship leaders Newcastle travel to face Preston North End this Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why Newcastle are the betting tip to get three points at Deepdale.

Preston North End vs Newcastle United Preview

Preston and Newcastle met as recently as Tuesday night but it was a game to forget for the Lillywhites as they were hammered 6-0. They looked like being knocked out of the EFL Cup at 2-0 down but the floodgates well and truly opened when they were reduced to 10 men.

Simon Grayson will be without midfielder Alan Browne who is suspended after being sent off for a cynical foul on Jack Colback. A number of players are set to be recalled to the starting XI which could shape up like the side that won 0-1 away to Norwich last weekend.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has a selection headache after Aleksandar Mitrovic bagged a brace through the week to stake his claim for a starting berth. However, it’s unlikely that Championship top-scorer Dwight Gayle will be dropped. Jack Colback’s injury will be assessed with Isaac Hayden ready to step in and a number of regular starters will return for this one.

Preston North End vs Newcastle United Prediction

Preston may be licking their wounds after Tuesday’s embarrassing defeat on Tyneside but they’ve shown in recent weeks that they can cut it against the promotion hopefuls with a full quota. They held Brighton to a 2-2 away draw, beat Huddersfield 3-1 at home and edged Norwich City 0-1 away, so shouldn’t be underestimated.

That being said, Newcastle have hit their stride now and will be looking to extend their current winning sequence to a seventh game. The Toon Army have kept 5 clean sheets from a possible 7 on the road in the Championship and look a tough nut to crack for any side at this level.

A repeat of Tuesday’s scoreline is unlikely but I can see Newcastle scoring a few goals on their way to a comfortable win. The match odds look fair enough but given the way Newcastle have been firing, I’ve gone for a long-odds Correct Score bet which looks like value.
