They did bounce back to beat Sparta Rotterdam 1-0 in the Eredivisie but were surprisingly beaten 3-1 away to the same side in the Dutch Cup. The win away to Vitesse will have restored a little confidence but it’s difficult to see Philip Cocu’s side troubling the visitors, especially with so many injuries to contend with.
Bayern Munich’s only defeat in 16 competitive matches this season was a 1-0 loss away to Atletico Madrid, a side that has gone far in this competition in recent years. PSV are unlikely to represent such a challenge and it should be business as usual for the BundesLiga side. One area for concern is in defence, as Bayern have kept just a single clean sheet in 6 matches.
However, PSV are also struggling to keep their opponents out and have done so just once in 8, which is not ideal when faced with an attacking trio such as Bayern’s. Thomas Muller is often in the right place at the right time while Arjen Robben will be looking to carve out chances but the real danger will be Robert Lewandowski who regularly conjures up moments of magic to find the net (see video above).
