International Friendly preview – Republic of Ireland vs Switzerland prediction.

Wolverhampton full-back Matt Doherty and Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes remain in contention for their international debuts after Martin O’Neill cut the initial Republic of Ireland squad from 40 to 33 for the upcoming friendly. Stoke City defender Marc Wilson has been ruled out with injury. Norwich winger Robbie Brady suffered a minor neck injury against West Brom on Saturday and will be assessed by the Irish medical team.

Switzerland give first call ups to Borussia Monchengladbach’s 19-year-old defender Nico Elvedi and 21-year-old Everton forward Shani Tarashaj.

Prediction

Ireland made it to the European Championships through the playoff round, beating Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-1 on aggregate, after finishing third in Group D behind Germany and Poland. They are unbeaten in nine home games since June 2014 where they defeated World Champions Germany 1-0 in qualifying and drew 0-0 against England in a friendly last summer. Ireland conceded one goal in the last four qualifying games at home.

Switzerland finished second to England in Group E after losing their first two games of the campaign. They won seven and lost one of the remaining eight games and have won one and lost one of two friendlies since qualifying. Switzerland have kept one clean sheet in their last six away games.

Republic of Ireland have proved to be very difficult to beat in Dublin over the last two years and can extend their unbeaten home run against Switzerland who will suffer for the lack of a number of key players.
