Roma v Fiorentina Preview
Roma are looking to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat at Barcelona on Tuesday which has surely quashed any hope the Italian side had of reaching the Champions League semi-finals. Their opponents on Saturday are Fiorentina who are making late push to grab a Europa League spot next term.
Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco may decide to make changes this weekend with Federico Fazio and Danielle De Rossi candidates for a rest after their Champions League travails. Radja Nainggolan wasn’t fit enough to face Barcelona in midweek and may remain sidelined at the weekend.
Leading scorer Edin Dzeko is expected to start with the former Manchester city striker looking to add to his 14 goal tally in Serie A this season
Midfielder Milan Badelj and young forward Federico Chiesa have arguably been the most influential performers for Fiorentina this season and will miss out on Saturday. Chiesa picked up a silly yellow card against Udinese on Tuesday and will be suspended while a knee injury keeps Badelj out of action for some time.
Giovanni Simeone came off the bench to score in the 2-0 midweek victory and looks set to start with Diego Falcinelli making way. Gil Dias and Cyril Thereau are in competition for the wide spot vacated by Chiesa.

Roma v Fiorentina Prediction
Roma must pick themselves up from the 4-1 defeat at Camp Nou where they played a lot better than the scoreline suggests. Own goals from De Rossi and Kostas Manolas left the visitors with too much to do and Roma can now focus on achieving a top four spot in Serie A.
Di Francesco’s side is currently in third place, one point ahead of Inter with Lazio still in touch just three points behind. Roma’s form has been patchy in spells but the players have shown they can bounce back from disappointing results. They lost 0-1 at home to Napoli in October and responded with a run of five consecutive league wins. Their last slip up at home was an unexpected 0-2 defeat by Milan and they responded brilliantly to win 4-2 in Naples the following weekend.
Fiorentina’s season looked to be fading away with just one win in seven on returning from the winter break. However, Stefano Pioli’s men have taken advantage of a kinder run of fixtures to win the last five games in which they’ve conceded only one goal and scored eight.
It’s a fixture that has produced plenty of goals recently and Dzeko continues to fire them in for Roma while Simeone is currently displaying his best form for Fiorentina and has scored in both of the last two games.
Roma are likely to find this more difficult than the previous two seasons but should be strong enough to emerge winners in a closely fought game.

Roma have dominated this fixture in the last three seasons, winning four of the last five meetings. They’ve scored four goals in each of the last two home games against la Viola and won 4-2 at Artemio Franchi when they clashed in November.
Fiorentina have enjoyed recent success in cup competitions at the Olympic Stadium, winning 3-0 in the Europa League and 2-0 in the Coppa Italia in 2015. But, we have to go back to April 2012 since Fiorentina last won away in the league against Roma.
