Serie A preview – Roma vs Sassuolo prediction

Roma host Sassuolo looking to keep up their good form after drawing against Barcelona in the Champions League. Sassuolo, meanwhile, are enjoying their best-ever start to a top-flight season, winning two and drawing one of their three games to date.

Roma have yet to beat Sassuolo on home soil in the League, and their task has been not been made any easier with Wojciech Szczesny out for a month due to the dislocated finger he picked up during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League.

Possible Line-ups

Roma: 4-3-3 formation: De Sanctis; Maicon, Rudiger, Manolas, Digne; Nainggolan, De Rossi, Vainqueur; Iturbe, Dzeko, Gervinho

Sassuolo: 4-3-3 formation: Consigli; Gazzola, Cannavaro, Acerbi, Peluso; Missiroli, Magnanelli, Duncan; Floro Flores, Defrel, Sansone

Statistics

  • Roma have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Sassuolo have won 7 and drawn 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Roma have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sassuolo have scored an average of 2 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Roma’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Sassuolo’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Miralem Pjanic is working with the rest of the group after getting past his injury, but it may be too early for him to have a start. Antonio Rüdiger seems to have overtaken Leandro Castan in the pecking order and could well start at the heart of Roma’s defence once again.

Domenico Berardi is getting closer to his comeback, but the good form of Antonio Floro Flores means they don’t have to rush his return. Marcello Gazzola will replace Sime Vrsaljko, who is injured.

Roma are undefeated in 35 of their last 38 home matches in Serie A while Sassuolo have won their last 3 away matches in Serie A.
