Sheffield Wednesday vs Preston Preview
Sheffield Wednesday broke their bad run of five defeats and two draws with a 2-1 win away to Leeds before the International break. That victory should see Jos Luhukay’s side safe for next season but he’ll want to pick up a couple more wins to make sure.
Wednesday are 17th in the Championship table on 41 points and are eight points clear of the bottom three. After a positive start to 2018 where they only suffered one defeat in ten games, Luhukay’s side hit some poor form which saw them defeated in five consecutive matches. They’re up aagainst a Preston side which has the second best record on the road thus far this season, only behind league-leaders Wolves.
Defender Sam Hutchinson is due to miss Friday’s match due to recovering from a hernia.
Preston are currently 8th in the league and challenging for a playoff place against the likes of Derby, Middlesbrough, Bristol City and rivals, Sheffield United. They’re two points adrift of a place and that gap could be closed come Friday evening should they pick up points given that Boro have a tough match against high-flying Wolves. Alex Neil will be confident his side can take away three points and know how important they could be in their challenge for a playoff spot.
Preston have been excellent on the road this season and have picked up more points on their travels than they have done at home. They’ve lost just once in their last 13 away games and come into this fixture on the back of a 2-0 victory against struggling Sunderland. Seán Maguire has found the net in his last four games bringing his season total up to nine goals and could be a wise choice for first goalscorer.
No players are out injured for the visitors and so Alex Neil should have a full squad available for selection on Friday.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Preston Prediction
Preston are keeping the pressure on surrounding teams in their fight for a playoff spot and Alex Neil knows how important every point is now with only eight games remaining. They have the chance to move into the playoff zone following Friday’s fixture and it’s hard to see them dropping points. Sheffield Wednesday have had a mixed run of form all season but apart from their victory over Leeds last time out, they are struggling to pick up points. They’re up again a Preston side which has the second best away record in the league and they’re going to find it tough to get anything from this match. We’ve seen both teams score in the last three of both Wednesday’s and Preston’s last three fixtures and so we’re tipping both sides to get on the scoresheet again with Preston grabbing one extra to claim all three points.

The home side has generally been dominant in fixtures between these two sides with the away team winning just once in their last eight meetings.
Sheffield Wednesday won this fixture last season with a 2-1 win in a game which saw three red cards shown. Preston got the better of Wednesday when they hosted them at Deepdale earlier this season when a penalty converted by Daniel Johnson in the 79th minute was enough to see the home side take away all three points.
