Swansea vs West Ham Preview
Swansea‘s season was turned around with the appointment of Carlos Carvalhal at the end of 2017. The Portuguese manager has averaged a win rate of 50% since taking over and before last weekend had only suffered defeat once which was to Tottenham in his second game in charge. Last Saturday’s trip to Brighton lead to his second defeat where his side were hammered 4-1 in a game that would have lifted them out of the bottom three should they have picked up just a point. Prior to that defeat, Swansea were 10 games unbeaten and had picked up notable wins against Arsenal and Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium.
Carvalhal’s side are through to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup after beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Tuesday night. That win will give the players a boost but it will also have taken it’s toll on the players’ fitness going into this weekends match. Rotations were made by Carvalhal but eight players featured which are likely to start against West Ham and there may be some tired legs on the pitch.
Angel Rangel, Leroy Fer, Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony all remain sidelined for Swansea while Jordan Ayew, who was rested for the first 45 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday before picking up the opening goal, will start up front for The Swans.
West Ham have now won just one of their last six games and were well-beaten at Anfield in their last match, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Klopp’s side. Their 2-0 win against Watford gave them three precious points that stopped them dropping into the bottom three but David Moyes will be looking to pick up maximum points on Saturday which could see his side move up to mid-table and 6 points safe.
The Hammers have now lost their last three away games across all competitions and have struggled to find any momentum. They have two home games against Burnley and Southampton which follow the clash with Swansea and Moyes will see them all as winnable games. Picking up maximum points across those games should see them safe from relegation and Moyes knows these next three weeks could decide his clubs fate with having to face the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal after that.
Patrice Evra made his debut last weekend in West Ham’s defeat to Liverpool and suffered a cut leg. He is a doubt for Saturday but will be assessed closer to match-day. Arthur Masuaku is still serving his ban for receiving a red card in the FA Cup defeat to Wigan while Pedro Obiang, Edimilson Fernandes and Andy Carroll all remain out injured.

Swansea’s impressive run was brought to an end with the 4-1 defeat to Brighton last weekend and will have deflated the dressing room. However, the FA Cup win may have been just what Swansea needed to perk up again and they will be confident going into Saturday’s game.
