Today’s horse racing tip runs in the opener at Musselburgh, a three mile conditional jockey’s handicap chase due off at 2.00pm.

Misfits chalked up his first win over fences when successful over course and distance 26 days ago and is taken to follow up under the guidance of able claimer Blair Campbell.

Trainer Lucinda Russell’s yard is on song with two wins from four runners in the last five days and appears to have found the secret to unlocking the best from today’s racing tip, Misfits. The seven year old was given a more prominent ride than usual by jockey Derek Fox last time. The gelding took up the lead from four out and made good use of his stamina to win by a comfortable length and three quarters from today’s market rival So Satisfied who he meets on 2lb better terms.

So Satisfied was making his first appearance since picking up an injury last July. Iain Jardine’s gelding followed up with a narrow win off a reduced mark at Catterick five days later and should acquit himself well on his return to Musselburgh.

Achill Road Boy runs off a good mark, having winning form at a 5lb higher rating eleven months ago. Stuart Coltherd’s nine year old ran one of his better races when runner up behind Wood Pigeon at Fakenham last time and would be a serious threat to our horse racing tips if regaining his best form.

Mahler Lad tops the weights with So Satisfied and would be in with a chance if regaining the form he showed when winning at Sedgefield last April. However, Donald McCain’s charge has only had two outings since and finished a long way off the pace on his reappearance in January.

Dun Faw Good has winning form in point to points but has yet to visit the winners enclosure in 11 attempts under Jockey Club rules. The James Walton-trained 11 year old was making his first appearance in over a year when an uninspiring fourth of nine at Sedgefield and has not shown any obvious indications he’ll be better suited by today’s increase in trip.

Nicki’s Nipper is one of two big outsiders in the seven runner field. The ten year old’s form has taken a dive since switching to Simon Waugh’s yard and the betting may well be the best indicator of her chances.

Finally, Nelly La Rue looks out of her depth at this level. Owner/trainer Victor Thompson’s mare has little form to go on and is all of 17lbs out of the weights for this contest.

Today’s forecast is for showers at Musselburgh with the ground expected to run good to soft.

The going should be just right for Misfits who can follow up a handy win here last time out. The dangers are So Satisfied who must improve a few pounds to get the better of our racing tip and Achill Hill Boy who has the ability if not the enthusiasm to win in this class.
