The first race at Lingfield this afternoon sees Bold Prediction attempting to end a barren run stretching back to January 2016. The eight-year-old still has ability and looks to have found the right level to warrant today’s racing tip.

Ed Walker’s charge runs in Class 5 for the first time in his career and demonstrated at Chelmsford City last month that he is close to a return to the winners enclosure when finishing a close fourth to Lacan over this trip. Bold Prediction raced in Class 3 without being disgraced last season and after three attempts in Class 4 has been dropped another grade.

Those three runs should have the gelding fully fit and the drop to Class 5 sets him up nicely at the track where he has a good record, winning two from five.

Helfire is another with a liking for Lingfield. Hughie Morrison’s mare was a course distance at this level last summer and has won two out of three runs at Lingfield. However, the five-year-old must carry 5lb more than her last winning mark and needs to step up on two unremarkable outings so far this season.

Pat Phelan-trained Presence Process failed to land a hat-trick of course and distance wins on his latest appearance 30 days ago. The four-year-old has been a consistent performer and shouldn’t be taken too lightly in this company.

Ronnie The Rooster looks open to improvement following a creditable run for new trainer Les Eyre. The four-year-old ran well when finishing fourth of nine in a Wolverhampton handicap in February and the main question mark will be his suitability to Lingfield’s polytrack on which he races for the first time today.

Bridge Of Sighs will have his supporters having run respectably in his last two races while Accomplice has a chance on her best form but is too inconsistent to recommend. Doctor Julius No has shown nothing of promise in three runs this year and completing the line up is Mister Musicmaster who is best watched as he returns from a seven-month absence.

Today’s going at Lingfield is Standard and the weather forecast is mostly sunny with a light wind.

Bold Prediction is taken to land this mile event on Lingfield’s all weather. Beaten a length in a stiffer race last time out, the eight-year-old looks more than capable of taking advantage of today’s lowly mark.
