The James Ewart-trained eight year-old returned to winning ways over this course and distance 13 days ago, turning the tables on useful rival Roxyfet with the pair finishing a long way clear of the rest of the field. It was an impressive run by Sky Full Of Stars, staying on well in heavy ground he clearly relishes.

He won here over the slightly shorter two mile trip in similar conditions 11 months ago and on the strength of that last performance, looks leniently treated today. Henry Brooke is in the saddle again and the pair are taken to land successive victories at the expense of market rival Casual Cavalier.

George Bewley’s 10 year-old shaped well enough on his seasonal debut at Wetherby on 29 November when tiring on the run in to go down by 18 lengths in better company than he faces in today’s event. Casual Cavalier beat today’s horse racing tip over a shorter trip on soft going at Ayr 12 months ago but will need to be at his best to finish in front under more testing conditions.

Another to consider is Nick Alexander-trained McGintys Dream who took to fences well on his chasing debut at Hexham in November. The seven year-old makes his first handicap outing off a low mark, however the drop in trip from three miles comes out of necessity rather than choice as his trainer struggles to find a suitable race following his pleasing debut. McGintys Dream will relish the heavy ground which should allow his stamina to come into play and can be expected to do his best work in the closing stages.

Today’s forecast at Ayr is for heavy sleet and the overnight going is heavy.
