Today’s free horse racing tip runs in the Bedmax Handicap Chase at 3:45 Kelso. Nine runners are due to go to post for this three mile two furlong handicap for five-year-olds and up.

Cumbrian trainer Martin Todhunter sends four runners to Kelso today and the pick of his entries is today’s racing tip, Pretty Miss Mahler.

The seven-year-old mare will be ridden by 3lb claimer Ross Chapman and is making her third appearance over fences. She was useful hurdler, winning twice in handicap company last year, and always looked like making a better chaser. She made her debut over fences at Hexham in September finishing third of five in a novices’ handicap.

She was put out to grass for the winter and re-appeared at Sedgefield 26 days ago when she ran a creditable second in a similar grade to today. Pretty Miss Mahler will have come on for the run and will appreciate the step up in trip having won beyond three miles when hurdling.

Ten-year-old Cobajayisland merits attention based on form that’s over two years old. The gelding has had problems since joining Michael Scudamore’s yard and has a seen little of the racecourse recently. However, he gave a good account at Southwell last month and could be heading back to his best.

Amilliontimes ran up a fourtimer in 2016 and hasn’t been given much assistance from the handicapper since. Following six fruitless outings, the decision to step him up in distance could be significant and he’s proved in the past he goes well when fresh.

Micky Hammond’s gelding Shake It Up gets in on a fair mark. The nine-year-old has won twice over fences, most recently when landing a Cartmel handicap for former trainer Richard Ford last August. He’s not done much for new connections and was last seen finishing third in a bumper at Newcastle in March.

Achill Road Boy won over the trip at Carlisle in March but made no impression on his next outing under a revised weight. It took nine chases to find the winning mark and trainer Stuart Coltherd may have to wait for another good opportunity.

Scotswell won this race last year when running off a 3lb lower mark. The twelve-year-old has done nothing of merit since and will need to show a big improvement on recent form to figure here.

Wetherby winner Golden Investment is another to go backwards since being raised in the handicap. The handicapper has dropped him 2lbs following his 22-length defeat last time out but there is still some way to go before reaching his last winning mark.

Attention Please has won three times since returning from an extended break last October. However, previous runs at Kelso have been undistinguished and the gelding seemed to have lost his appetite for racing when pulled up at Carlisle last month.

George Bewley’s Classical Milano has little form to go on but having been pulled up in his only start over fences makes the seven-year-old a risky bet today.

The going at Kelso is good, good to firm in places. The weather forecast is for rain with a moderate south-westerly breeze.

This is competitive event and a case can be made for a few of these runners. However, we favour Pretty Miss Mahler who has scope for improvement and will be very much at home with today’s conditions.
