Course form counts for a lot at Fakenham and today’s horse racing tip is a dual-winner here. Potters Midnight has raced four times at the Norfolk track where she’s won twice and finished 3rd and 5th. She won her maiden by five lengths here in January and returned to the track in March when she proved too good for seven rivals in a Class 3 handicap.

Those wins were over the two mile course but she has run well at this trip in the past. Trainer Lucy Wadham tried the mare in a £30,000 Class 2 handicap at Haydock last time and she wasn’t disgraced in finishing mid-division. Potters Midnight drops back in grade and has an outstanding chance of completing a hat-trick of Fakenham wins.

The danger appears to be Apache Song who also drops back after running in a Listed event at Cheltenham in April. James Eustace’s mare was never a threat but has a better chance at this level. She won a two mile handicap at Wincanton in March and won a novices’ event at Market Rasen last September. However, the handicapper is asking the five-year-old to produce her absolute best on her first look at the course.

Mariah’s Legend has a put up a number of decent efforts since landing her maiden in January 2017 but is still searching for an elusive second win. Amy Murphy’s charge can be very temperamental and her antics have cost her races before they started. She’s returning to hurdles following two unsuccessful attempts over larger obstacles and could give a good account if everything clicks.

Northern Beau made a promising debut for Michael Scudamore’s yard when finishing second in a Musselburgh novices’ hurdle in January. The six-year-old has disappointed in a couple of races since although connections were asking a lot at Cheltenham last time where she finished behind Apache Song. The handicapper has dropped her 10lb which may be enough to bring her into the reckoning today. However, the mare is 0 from 10 over both codes and is yet to prove she has a winning mentality.

Amron Kali won this race twelve months ago and followed up off a 7lb higher mark next time at Worcester. Despite dropping back to a competitive mark her subsequent form has been disappointing and a recent wind operation has not shown any benefit on the evidence of two poor performances in 2018.

Red Four has chequered form and didn’t show a great deal when making her debut for Sarah-Jayne Davies last month. She’ll need to improve here and at eight-year-old, it’s difficult to see where it will come from.

The going at Fakenham this afternoon is good. The weather forecast is cloudy with sunny spells and a light south-westerly breeze.

Potters Midnight has good course form which is a big positive at Fakenham. She ran well in defeat last time and today’s drop in grade augurs well for her chances of a third course victory.
