Today’s horse racing tip runs in the 7:15 Newcastle, a five runner handicap on the All Weather surface at Gosforth Park racecourse.

Trainer John Gosden brings Ode To Autumn back to Newcastle where the three year old gelding showed a distinct liking for the tapeta surface when winning over course and distance last month.

Back Ode To Autumn at 2/1 on bet365

Joseph O’Brien took Bachelor to Kempton for his first run after being gelded and the trip proved worthwhile when the three-year-old got up in the closing stages to register his first win. Ben Curtis’ mount is raised 3lbs for the win which may be too telling on his first foray on the tapeta surface.

Sheriff was an impressive winner at Kempton on his first start of the season but couldn’t handle the fibresand at Southwell in his follow up race. Michael Bell sends his charge north where he hopes Sheriff can perform better on Newcastle’s All Weather. Running off an 11lb higher mark than Kempton leaves one too many question marks.

Chingachgook looks best of the two northern horses. Richard Fahey’s entry has run well in all of his three starts and claims a weight advantage over our racing tip – in receipt of 4lbs having finished three-quarters of length behind in a Lingfield event as two-year-olds. Chingachgook steps up in distance and could be the biggest danger if seeing out the trip.

Mick Easterby’s Bad Dog makes up the field as outsider of the five runners.  The gelding is making a quick re-appearance after finishing eighth of nine at Lingfield on Tuesday. He won over course and distance earlier this month but remains 3lb out of the handicap and looks well exposed.

Today’s forecast at Newcastle is sunny. The tapeta all weather surface is the same as used at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford City.

Ode To Autumn is difficult to ignore in this mile event. He’s a course and distance winner, the stable is in great form and trainer John Gosden has an impressive strike rate at Newcastle.
