Ali Stronge’s yard is in good form at the moment and the Eastbury-based handler sends Navajo War Dance and Heresmynumber to Chepstow today. It’s the latter that piques our interest, the improving eight-year-old has won two of his last three starts and can a defy penalty to land this moderate contest.

Heresmynumber has run four times over fences and got off the mark at the second time of asking in a novice chase over two miles five furlongs at Fakenham just over a month ago. The gelding came close to shrugging off a 5lb increase when failing by a length and a quarter to concede 12lb to the winner of a Class 4 handicap over the same course and distance on 7 April.

He was stepped up to three and a quarter miles at Sedgefield next time where he stayed on well to deny bottom weight Bobonyx by a neck in a five runner chase. Heresmynumber is raised 3lb for that effort but looks capable of further improvement and is selected to be our racing tip today.

Bottom weight Leith Hill Legasi could emerge the biggest danger following a recent wind operation. Charlie Longsdon’s nine-year-old has winning form in this grade, successful twice in 2015. However he’s been expensive to follow since and we’ll have to rely on the betting market to judge if connections have faith the operation has had the desired effect.

Canyouhearmenow improved with the fitting of a tongue tie at Fontwell last time to win his first chase in four attempts. That was a weak contest in comparison to the opposition he faces today and will need to offer more to defy a 5lb penalty.

Top weight Call Carlo won a four-runner handicap over three miles at Southwell on his penultimate start. He jumped erratically to the right that day and his technique didn’t look great when unseating at Towcester last time. Trainer Venetia Williams fits blinkers for the first time but the gelding remains a risky proposition on this left-handed track.

The remaining runners have had their chances and having failed to deliver, can’t be recommended on recent form.

The going at Chepstow is good to soft and the weather forecast is for light rain with a light north-easterly breeze.

Heresmynumber can add to the yard’s 30% strike rate in the past fortnight. He’s progressed well since starting his chasing career in January and arrives here fighting fit with two wins from his last three starts.
