Highly Focussed has wintered well at Ann Duffield’s yard and began his four-year-old campaign with two wins from three runs. The son of Intense Focus got off to the perfect start winning a nine-runner handicap over this distance at Newcastle in February before finishing fourth at Wolverhampton where he was denied a clear run.

Making a quick re-appearance at the midlands’ all weather track, Franny Norton timed his run nicely to get up near the line for win number two. He’s gone up 6lbs for the latest effort but looks capable of better and gets the vote for today’s horse racing tip.

Jim Boyle’s three-year-old Quick Recovery has done well since switching to all weather handicaps following a fruitless two-year-old campaign on turf. The filly gained her second win from three outings when taking an eight-runner handicap at Kempton in February. Jockey Pat Cosgrove may have to change her running style as hold up horses are not best suited to Chelmsford. She’s since been given a rest and we’ll be watching her closely as she goes up against older horses for the first time.

Billyoakes caught the attention of the handicapper when winning an ten-runner race over the course and distance at the end of March. The six-year-old looked to struggle under the additional 5lb burden when finishing mid-division at Kempton last time out and may need to drop down the weights a little before troubling the judge again.

Top weight Roy’s Dream is a previous course and distance winner. The four-year-old is having his first run of the season and is best watched following a six-month lay off.

Villa Tora is having her first outing since finishing fourth in a Wolverhampton nursery last November and like Blessed To Empress will have to improve to challenge more experienced rivals.

The going at Chelmsford this evening is standard. The weather forecast is cloudy with sunny spells and a light south-westerly breeze.

Highly Focussed likes to be ridden close the pace which is a distinct advantage at Chelmsford where horses find it difficult to come from behind. He’s gone the right way over the winter and continue to improve by landing this moderate event.
