Ukraine entertain Finland for a World Cup qualifying Group I clash at Stadion Chornomorets this Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why a home win is the betting tip in Odesa. Ukraine were 3-0 winners at home to Kosovo last time out while Finland went down 0-1 at home to Croatia.

Ukraine vs Finland Preview

Ukraine have an assured stopper in Shakhtar Donetsk’s Andriy Pyatov. His club teammate Oleksandr Kucher will captain the side and keep things organised in defence. Dynamo Kyiv’s Andriy Yarmolenko and Schalke’s Yevhen Konoplyanka are dynamic midfielders that will look to get on the front foot and support Zinchenko and Kravets up-front.

Finland goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky normally has a busy night and will be without the protection of injured captain Niklas Moisander. Joel Pohjanpalo is also out of the squad, so Eero Markkanen could slot in alongside Teemu Pukki in attack. The latter is hoping to notch his tenth international goal here.

Team Predictions Ukraine vs Finland

Ukraine 4-4-2 formation: Pyatov; Butko, Ordets, Kucher, Sobol; Yarmolenko, Kovalenko, Stepanenko, Konoplyanka; Zinchenko, Kravets

Finland 4-4-2 formation: Hradecky; Lam, Halsti, Arajuuri, Toivio; Raitala, Lod, Eremenko, Uronen; Pukki, Markkanen

Ukraine vs Finland Prediction

Ukraine had a slow start to this qualification process with a 1-1 draw at home to Iceland followed by a 2-2 draw away to Turkey. The win against Kosovo was never in doubt but they’re up and running now and will be looking to go 4 games unbeaten here.

Finland were expected to end their long winless streak against Kosovo but could only manage a 1-1 draw. To their credit, they ran Iceland very close in a 3-2 away defeat after that but rarely threatened against Croatia last time out.

Ukraine are still very much in with a shot of qualifying but will need to avoid slipping up in games like this, if they are to make it to the finals in Russia. They scored some good goals against Kosovo and while this won’t be quite so easy, I expect them to get the job done with minimal fuss.
