US Open 2016 tips, free golf betting tips for the US Open which returns to Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania this week. It is going to be an incredibly gruelling four days for the players, as this Par 70, 7219-yard course is a throwback to the way US Opens were generally set up in the past. The field must contend with narrow fairways, penal rough and sloping greens which are lightening fast. It will be very surprising if the winning total is under Par.

I think the longer, accurate players will definitely have an advantage this week, as if the greens dry out it will be a major plus to be hitting shorter irons that can get some grip to stay on the greens. As always with US Opens, I think the ability to lag long putts to make the countless four footers for Par will be very important and whilst birdies are a bonus, it’s not going to be some streaky player with the putter who will win. Whilst length is important, the second and possibly more important attribute will be who will to be able to scramble the best, as there are going to plenty of greens either missed or players once in the rough can’t get the yardage to get to the green. A dose of patience goes a long way around here also, so I can’t see the Bubber Watson type contending this week. Though then again he did come 7th here in 2007!

US Open Golf Tips

Kevin Chappell 100/1 E/W Paddy Power (7 Places) This player has a history of playing hard courses well as he will find plenty of fairways, has a superb iron game when in form, and that ever so important even temperament. He's not a birdie machine, but he is the type to keep the bogeys off his card and that goes a long way to getting to the top of the leaderboard. He has a few bits and pieces of solid form in this event and it's a matter of time before he makes a run at the title on a Sunday when playing one of the more arduous Majors. He's at an enticing price this week and with the Big Three taking a lot of the money in the market is real value. Matt Kuchar 40/1 E/W William Hill (6 places) Kuchar has been a money making machine this year and has four top six finishes in his last four starts. It's been a little frustrating as he keeps letting winning positions get away from him, usually with a slack shot that seems to come out of nowhere. Having said that he's been as consistent a ball striker as anyone and with the level of concentration needed this week, he won't be the only one putting in the odd bad shot. He's another player who has the required patience. He can accept the bad shots when they come along and won't let any frustration fester. Whilst he's not got a stellar record at the US Open, he has had two twelve finishes in the last two years and hopefully, his current confidence can lift him to new highs. Hideki Matsuyama 33/1 E/W Stan James (6 places) The amicable Japanese player has been in very good form in the last few months, though he was disappointing at the Memorial recently. I'm willing to overlook that as this great ball striker has shown glimmers of form here in the past, with two top twenties and if he can have a consistent week with the flat stick he can contend. It will be a surprise if he is not near the top in fairways hit and greens in regulation at the end of the week, and his plodding style will suit this course nicely.
