Valencia are missing three centre-backs here and will have to field fringe players in the defence. Eliaquim Mangala is suspended, Ezequiel Garay is injured and Aymen Abdennour is on international duty. Carlos Soler is expected to continue in midfield, with Rodrigo set to start in attack once again despite suffering from a midweek knock.

Espanyol will not be able to use Pablo Piatti due to a clause in his loan contract. Leo Baptistao and Javi Lopez are injured while Papakouli Diop is at the African Cup of Nations. With Felipe Caicedo ill, Alvaro Vazquez should come in alongside the mercurial Gerard Moreno in attack.

Espanyol look set for mid-table mediocrity once more but are at least on course to avoid being pulled into a relegation scrap. They’re an incredibly tough side to beat, with just a single defeat in their last fourteen matches. However, they have drawn a lot of games this season which is why they are not higher up the table.

Valencia have a really good record in this fixture but have conceded at least twice in each of their previous four matches which does not bode well. Already in bad form, their makeshift defence is unlikely to hold out here and I can see the visitors bagging a couple of goals.
