Wimbledon Predictions | Men’s Second Round

Kei Nishikori, the number 5 seed, struggled to a first round win over Simone Bolelli, a match which went to five sets. The Japanese is easily one of the most talented on the ATP Tour but seems to be struggling with injury at the moment. This could open up a chance for Santiago Giraldo, to cause a shock in the second round.

Nishikori has won six of seven career head-to-head meetings against Giraldo but the Japanese has not performed well at Wimbledon during his career. Giraldo will view this as a great opportunity to boost his ranking and progress to third round of Wimbledon for the second year in succession. Giraldo is 4/1 with Bet365 to defeat Nishikori.

Also in the second round, Grigor Dimitrov takes on Steve Johnson. Dimitrov has endured a disappointing 2015 to date but looked good in his round match against Federico Delbonis. Dimitrov’s opponent, Steve Johnson has been producing the best performances of his career at Grand Slams in 2015.

The American certainly has the power to trouble Dimitrov and is priced at 4/1 with Skybet to defeat the Bulgarian. However, considering the length of time Johnson played on Monday, it could be difficult to keep that power going throughout the match. Dimitrov is 11/4 to come through by three sets to one.

Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic should comfortably come through against Jarkko Nieminen and John Isner faces a battle with Matthew Ebden but should have enough to make the third round.

Our outside pick for the men’s title at the start of the tournament, Milos Raonic, faces a potentially difficult match-up with Tommy Haas but is 1/6 favourite to go through.
