2020 Golden Boot Contenders

2020 Golden Boot Contenders

With Premier League action resuming last month, several top players will be looking to increase their goal tally to claim the 2020 Golden Boot award.

The Golden Boot is awarded to the player who scores the most goals in the Premier League each season with 3 players, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, sharing the award last season after each finding the net 22 times.

Mo Salah has now won the award the last 2 seasons but is up against it this season with both Jamie Vardy and Aubameyang having scored more.

As of the 9th July 2020, the current Premier League top scorers this season are:

Jamie Vardy

  • Club: Leicester City
  • Goals: 22

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

  • Club: Arsenal
  • Goals: 20

Mohammed Salah

  • Club: Liverpool
  • Goals: 19

Danny Ings

  • Club: Southampton
  • Goals: 18

Sadio Mane

  • Club: Liverpool
  • Goals: 16

With just four games remaining (5 for Danny Ings and Southampton), goals are going to be needed for any player wanting to catch Vardy and strip him of his first Golden Boot award.

2020 Golden Boot Odds

Several bookmakers accept bets on the player to win the Golden Boot and you can usually find the market listed as the ‘Premier League Top Scorer’.

Online bookmaker William Hill is currently offering the following odds.

Odds were correct at time of publishing but are subject to change

Jamie Vardy – 4/6 (Bet Here)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 4/1 (Bet Here)

Mohamed Salah – 4/1 (Bet Here)

Danny Ings – 14/1 (Bet Here)

Sadio Mane – 40/1 (Bet Here)

Leicester’s remaining fixtures include Bournemouth, Sheff Utd, Tottenham and Man Utd which could be considered relatively difficult.

Liverpool, for which both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are contending for the Golden Boot award with, also have some tricky final matches against Burnley, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle.

It doesn’t get much easier for Arsenal and Aubameyang either who have to face Tottenham, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Watford.

Southampton possibly have the easiest end to the season and Danny Ings also has an additional match to bag some goals. They’re scheduled to face Everton, Man Utd, Brighton, Bournemouth and Sheff Utd. However, Danny Ings is unlikely to get as many chances in front of goal as the other Golden Boot contenders and making up the four goal difference in five matches is a tough ask.

We wouldn’t put it past Salah to bag a few goals in any of Liverpool’s games and leave it all but square up until the end of the season. However, with Vardy having a 2 goal advantage currently, we’re backing the Leicester and England striker to pick up his first Golden Boot in the 2019/2020 Premier League season.
