Draw No Bet Explained: All You Need To Know

27 February 2018

Nobody really wants to see a draw in football. Not unless your team only needs a point to stay up or to win the league anyway.

Even then though we’d still rather see the full three points! The dreaded draw can be an annoyance to say the least, especially when it comes to betting, and over the years those pesky 0-0s or 1-1s have cost many punters a big money accumulator..

Times have changed now though with bookmakers always looking to expand their offering, hence the introduction of Draw No Bet offers markets, which are proving more and more popular with punters.

What Is Draw No Bet?

A Draw No Bet bet basically eliminates the draw in football by giving you your stake back if such an event happens.

Almost like insurance, you can go whole hog and back a winner without the worry of losing if your side concedes a last minute equaliser or the game plays out to a boring 0-0.

This means:

  • If the team you back wins, you win your bet.
  • If your team loses, you will lose the bet.
  • Should the team draw, the money you have bet will be refunded.

You will find that the odds will be lower than a normal Match Result bet as you’re ultimately eliminating one outcome, but it’s a market worth backing if you’re a little unsure.

Example:

Let’s take a game between Crystal Palace and Tottenham. The regular 90 mins odds for this wager would be:

Crystal Palace – 11/2

Draw – 16/5

Tottenham – 1/ 2

In this case Tottenham are the favourites, and quite rightly so. However, with Crystal Palace being at home, you may be a little concerned about fully backing a Spurs win. The same would apply if the opposition were in a good run of form or Spurs had players missing.

If you are unsure, you would be able to back Spurs on a Draw No Bet wager. This however would alter the odds to look more like this:

Crystal Palace – 4/1

Tottenham – 1/7

This is essentially because you backing two outcomes and have a two out of three chance of winning. In this example, if you were to back Spurs and they won, you’d win.

If Spurs were to lose, you’d lose and if the game ended a draw you’d receive your stake back.

Why Is Draw No Bet Different To Match Result?

With a Draw No Bet punt you’d back a winner and should the match end in a draw you’ll receive your stake back into your account.

If you were to back a team and the Result ended in a draw without a Draw No Bet offer, you would completely lose your stake.

This does mean that the odds will have much less value however.

When To Back A Draw No Bet

The best occasions to back a Draw No Bet offer is when there’s an element of doubt in your mind.

There are plenty of scenarios when games don’t quite go to plan, and usually you have a good chance of calling them.

The end of the season is always a big period of this. Sides are pushing for play off places, desperately battling to avoid relegation and it’s where that little bit of grit can help upset the odds.

We all remember West Brom’s great escape, while it’s impossible to forget Liverpool’s capitulation just a few years ago when they almost had one hand on the title. Pressure can change games.

Additionally, it’s always worth checking things like form, head-to-head and new Manager syndrome – that period when all results go a little crazy.

The likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham and West Brom have all benefited from it of late and it can make a real difference.

Injuries are also a factor and if a star striker is out it could be vital in how a game is going to go. There are dozens of factors to consider, and if some don’t quite add up taking a slash in the odds may be worth it for a Draw No Bet.

What If My Bookmaker Doesn’t Offer Draw No Net?

There are alternatives to this wager so don’t worry if your bookmaker doesn’t offer Draw No Bet.

To get around this you can use two different methods.

Asian Handicap – You can use an Asian Handicap bet to place a Draw No Bet wager. Simply back the team you think has the best chance of winning with a handicap of (0). If your team wins, you win. If the game ends in a draw the bet will be void and you’ll receive your stake back.

This is because in theory you haven’t given your side a handicap at all and it triggers the draw element of a handicap bet, just as you would if you backed a team with a (-1) handicap and they won 1-0.

Bet on the Draw – On top of backing your winner, also back the draw.

However, you have to be clever about it to ensure you don’t lose your stake.

Example:

Let’s say you have £10 to bet and the odds are as follows:

Crystal Palace – 11/2

Draw – 16/5

Tottenham – 1/ 2

To make sure you receive that £10 back, you would have to put £3.20 on the draw and the rest on the Tottenham win. This way, you’d make a small profit if Tottenham won, and also get your £10 if they were to draw.

Of course, if Crystal Palace were to lose, you’d lose your stake.
