Three Players For Your Shortlist For Open Championship

The 2019 Open Championship will take place at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland next month as the world’s best players look to be crowned Champion Golfer of the Year following the oldest of the four Major Championships.

For many, Royal Portrush will be a new experience as the last time a Major was held there was in 1951. It did, however, stage the 2012 Irish Open which was won by Jamie Donaldson.

Here is an early look at three players who should be on your shortlist for the third Major of the season.

Rory McIlroy – 8/1

No player is going to be more at home at Royal Portrush than Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman will have played the links course many times during his youth and early stages of his professional career. It’s been a good few months for the four-time Major winner with success coming in the Players Championship at Sawgrass, and more recently, victory in the Canadian Open where he shot an impressive final round of 61 to lift the trophy. With a home crowd that is set to be right behind him, McIlroy looks to have the best chance of the players at the top end of the Open Championship 2019 betting where he can be backed at 8/1.

Rickie Fowler – 20/1

Rickie Fowler has long been considered as a future Major winner and his best chance may well come in the Open Championship, as he is very comfortable with links golf, as he proved when winning the Scottish Open in 2015. Given he has yet to break his maiden in golf’s big four tournaments, Fowler is a much bigger price now than he was going off a couple of years ago in the Majors. He started the year well with a victory in the Waste Management Phoenix Open, while he had a top-ten finish at the US Masters back in April. Fowler is worth sticking with to finally get his first Major that he so desperately needs, as it would finally end all the talk about whether he has the game and temperament to be one of the best around.

Xander Schauffele – 33/1

American Xander Schauffele is a five-time winner on the PGA Tour and he has proved over the last couple of years that he is very close to his maiden Major success. Schauffele shot a very good round of 68 on the final day at Augusta to finish in a tie for second behind Tiger Woods. In 2018, he went into the final round of the Open Championship as one of the joint-leaders on -9. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old shot a 74 which ruined his chances. Schauffele would have learned a lot from those experiences and the next time he is in contention, he is likely to perform much better when it comes to closing it out. At 33/1 in the outright betting, the man who is ranked fourth on the 2019 FedEx Cup Points List, is overpriced to come out on top in Northern Ireland.

The above three players should give you a great chance of backing the winner at what is always one of the best weeks on the golf calendar.
