Bundesliga preview – Bayer Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg prediction.

Tim Jedjav returns from suspension and could fill in at right back for Bayer Leverkusen who have a number of injured defenders. Roberto Hilbert is a couple of weeks away from a comeback from a broken collarbone while Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Sebastian Boenisch have been ruled out for the season with their injuries. Omer Toprak is hopeful of returning to central defence where midfielder Andre Ramalho deputised against Stuttgart last time. Karim Bellarabi has been receiving treatment on a slight foot injury while with the Germany squad but should be passed fit for Friday. Top scorer Javier Hernandez is expected to be rested as he is due to arrive late from international duty with Mexico.

Wolfsburg are waiting for news of Andre Schurrle and Julian Draxler who have been on international duty. Winger Daniel Caligiuri is out with a hamstring injury and central midfielder Max Arnold will be assessed for a calf problem following the draw against Darmstadt. Goalkeeper Diego Benaglio is close to a comeback from a rib injury but centre forward Bas Dost, centre-back Naldo and full-back Sebastian Jung remain sidelined.

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Bayer Leverkusen’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Wolfsburg’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Despite injury problems at the back, Leverkusen have not conceded in the last three matches registering league wins at home to Hamburg and away in Stuttgart either side of a goalless draw against Villarreal in the Europa League. The clean sheets at BayArena came as welcome relief to fans who had watched their team lose three of the previous four competitive home games.

Wolfsburg have picked up one point in two games since progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Belgian side Gent. The opposition were not the strongest either, with Darmstadt (d1-1) and Hoffenheim (l1-0) both embroiled in a fight for survival. Dieter Hecking’s side are four points behind Leverkusen who currently occupy sixth place and there is a fear their Champions League distractions could cost them a place in Europe next season.

Leverkusen should overcome Wolfsburg who have only won one of the last eight on the road in the Bundesliga
