Bundesliga preview – Borussia M.Gladbach v Wolfsburg prediction

Borussia M.Gladbach will need to replace the injured Yann Sommer in goal following his midweek collision, Tobias Sippel to come in. Tony Jantschke is likely to miss another game allowing Julian Korb to continue at right back. Patrick Hermann and Ibrahima Traore both impressed on the right midweek, Hermann may just get the nod.

Wolfsburg will be hoping Vierinha will be fit enough for the bench but Christian Trasch will continue at full back for this one. Maximilian Arnold will again take the place of the injured Luiz Gustavo. Dieter Hecking is likely to keep Andre Schurrle and Nicklas Bendtner as attacking options from the bench.

Possible Line-ups

Borussia M.Gladbach: 4-4-2 formation: Sippel; Korb, Christensen, Dominguez, Wendt; Johnson, Dahoud, Xhaka, Hermann; Raffael, Stindl

Wolfsburg: 4-2-3-1 formation: Benaglio; Trasch, Naldo, Dante, Rodriguez, Guilavogui, Arnold; Caligiuri, Kruse, Draxler; Dost

Statistics

Last 10 matches:

  • M.Gladbach have won 3, drawn 0 and lost 7
  • Wolfsburg have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 2

Over the course of their previous 10 matches:

  • M.Gladbach have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 2.1 goals per game
  • Wolfsburg have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in:

  • 9 of M.Gladbach’s previous 10 matches
  • 5 of Wolfburg’s previous 10 matches

The fixtures between these teams last season resulted in 1-0 for the home side in both games.

Prediction

M.Gladbach are lying in lowly 14th position but have secured back to back wins since their coach was replaced. The midweek Champions League defeat to the blue side of Manchester would have disappointed everyone at the club given the late nature of the goals but the performance will have taken a lot out of the squad and to welcome Wolfsburg may be too much on this occasion.

Wolfsburg currently sit 4th in the table but are without a win in their last three games. Having been defeated by the red half of Manchester midweek after taking the lead the team will be out to make a point in this game. They can’t afford to lose anymore ground on the league leaders and we expect Wolfsburg to leave with the points here.

We have went for Bas Dost to continue his goal scoring form and find the net in this one. The bookies do not fancy Wolfsburg to get anything in this game but we have taken a Double Chance on the draw or Wolfsburg.
