Bundesliga football tips – Stuttgart vs Cologne prediction

Stuttgart are without goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak, therefore Przemyslav Tyton will make his Bundesliga debut in goal. Antonio Rüdiger and Serey Dié are also out, meaning possible starts for new signing Emiliano Insua at the back and Carlos Gruezo in midfield.

Cologne have to do without Dominic Maroh and Mergim Mavraj but both Frederik Sörensen and Dominique Heintz are in line to make their Bundesliga debuts in the centre of defence. Leonardo Bittencourt and Milos Jojic are also hoping to make their Bundesliga debut for Cologne, with the former the most likely to get the nod.

Possible Line-ups

Stuttgart: 4-2-3-1 formation: Tyton; Klein, Baumgartl, Hlousek, Insua; Gentner, Gruezo; Harnik, Didavi, Kostic; Ginczek

Cologne: 4-1-4-1 formation: Horn; Olkowski, Sorensen, Heintz, Hector; Lehmann; Risse, Osako, Gerhardt, Bittencourt; Modeste

  • Stuttgart have won 8 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Cologne have won 7, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Stuttgart have scored an average of 2.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Cologne have scored an average of 2 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Stuttgart’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Cologne’s previous 10 matches
  • Cologne won this fixture last season 2-0

Stuttgart endured a disappointingly poor 2014/2015 season in the Bundesliga and will be aiming to make significant improvements this time around. New manager Alexander Zorniger, will be hoping to guide his team to a mid-table position and play some good, forward thinking football at the same time.

Cologne did well last season and will hope to build on that during the 2015/16 campaign. However, it will be interesting to see how the new central defensive pairing of Sörensen and Heintz perform in their first match together. Cologne have made some additions to their attacking options but it’s hard to envisage this team doing any better than last season.

Neither team will want to start the new season with a defeat and this could result in a counter-attacking game.
