Champions League football tips – Barcelona vs Bayern Munich prediction

Barcelona only have one real doubt for the game and that’s full-back Jordi Alba. The Spanish international has been struggling with a foot injury but should recover in time. Otherwise, Luis Enrique has a full squad to pick from and his main decision could be who partners Gerard Pique at the back.

Bayern Munich have a number of key players missing through injury. Arjen Robben, David Alaba and Holger Badstuber are all definitely out. Franck Ribery and Robert Lewandowski remain doubtful, with the later most likely to feature wearing a protective mask and the magnitude of the occasion, means that game has come too early in the recovery of Javi Martinez.

Probable Line-ups

Barcelona: 4-3-3 formation: Stegen; Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Neymar, Suarez, Messi

Bayern Munich: 4-3-2-1 formation: Neuer; Bernat, Benatia, Boateng, Rafinha; Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Alonso; Thiago, Gotze; Muller

  • Barcelona have won 9 and drawn 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Bayern Munich have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Barcelona have scored an average of 3.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.4 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Bayern Munich have scored an average of 1.5 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Barcelona’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Bayern Munich’s previous 10 matches
  • The last time these teams met in the knock-out phase of the Champions League was 2013 and Bayern Munich won 7-0 on aggregate

Barcelona come in to the match in superb form and are playing some of the best football witnessed in Europe this season. Their last five matches, has seen Luis Enrique’s team score 20 goals without reply. Messi, Suarez and Neymar are linking up superbly and Barcelona have only lost twice in their previous 32 European matches at the Camp Nou.

Memories of his historic time at Barcelona will come flooding back to Guardiola on Wednesday night. However, the more painful memory of what happened to his Bayern Munich team against Spanish opposition in last season’s Champions League may be more prominent in his mind. Indifferent form, has not helped preparations for this match and coupled with the increasing injury problems, Guardiola has a lot of work to do, if Bayern are to come through this tie.

With the form that Barcelona are in and the important, experienced players Bayern are without, everything points to a Barcelona win.

We say: Barcelona to win by 2 goals at 15/4 with Bet365
