Champions League preview – Bayern Munich vs Dinamo Zagreb prediction

Arjen Robben has made a return to training for Bayern Munich but this match is too soon for the Dutch international to feature. Franck Ribery, Holger Badstuber, Mehdi Beantia and Jan Kirchhoff are all definitely out with injury but Javi Martinez may feature in central defence for Pep Guardiola.

Dinamo Zagreb have Goncalo Santos available for selection having been suspended for their first match against Arsenal. Leonardo German Sigali and Ivo Pinto are struggling but should be able to play some part in the game. Otherwise, it should be a very similar line-up to that which defeated Arsenal in week one.

Possible Line-ups

Bayern Munich: 4-3-3 formation: Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Alaba, Bernat; Thiago, Alonso, Vidal; Muller, Lewandowski, Costa

Dinamo Zagreb: 4-3-3 formation: Eduardo; Pinto, Taraval, Sigali, Pivaric; Rog, Antolic, Machado; Soudani, Pjaca, Fernandes

Statistics

  • Bayern Munich have won 9 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Dinamo Zagreb have won 8 and drawn 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Bayern Munich have scored an average of 3 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Dinamo Zagreb have scored an average of 3 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 10 of Bayern Munich’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Dinamo Zagreb’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Bayern Munich are really starting to hit form this season and have won all 8 of their matches to date. The team have been impressive in both attack and defence, scoring 26 goals in their 8 games and conceding only 3. It seems as though, whatever players Guardiola picks, the outcome is exactly the same, a win for Bayern. Striker Robert Lewandowski is in particularly good form, having scored 7 goals in his last 2 matches.

If Bayern are on a run of good form then Dinamo Zagreb are in sensational form, having remained unbeaten in their previous 45 games in all competitions. Similarly to Bayern, Dinamo have been scoring goals for fun of late, netting 24 in their previous 7 matches, including 2 against Arsenal in their opening day win in the Champions League.

This is a match-up between two of the in-form teams in Europe, however, Bayern are at a higher level than Dinamo and it will be the away team who’s unbeaten streak will be coming to an end.
