Champions League football tips – Lazio vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction

Lazio have made a number of new signings during the summer, including some young players and a few could be involved from the off in this match. However, Ravel Morrison is struggling with injury, as is Federico Marchetti, meaning a possible start in goal for Etrit Berisha.

For Bayer Leverkusen, new signing Charles Aranguiz has only recently returned to training and this match may come too early for the Chile international. New signing Kyriakos Papadopoulos should start the match, with Admir Mehmedi on the bench.

Possible Line-ups

Lazio: 4-3-3 formation: Berisha; Lulic, De Vrij, Gentiletti, Basta; Parolo, Biglia, Onazi; Anderson, Klose, Candreva

Bayer Leverkusen: 4-2-3-1 formation: Leno; Hilbert, Tah, Papadopoulos, Wendell; Bender, Kramer; Bellarabi, Calhanoglu, Son; Kiessling

  • Lazio have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 6 of their last 10 matches
  • Bayer Leverkusen have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Lazio have scored an average of 1 goal and conceded an average of 1.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Bayer Leverkusen have scored an average of 1.8 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Lazio’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Bayer Leverkusen’s previous 10 matches
  • Lazio have lost their last 4 matches in a row, whereas Leverkusen have won their last 4

Lazio have yet to start their competitive season but pre-season form has been poor and they have only managed to score 1 goal in their last 4 matches. However, pre-season does not always count for much and with the passionate home crowd behind them, Lazio are a team many would have hoped to avoid at this stage of the Champions League.

Leverkusen have a couple of competitive games under their belt this season, winning both their cup and Bundesliga matches. Although they went behind against Hoffenheim at home on the weekend, the team showed enough character to come back and win the match and should be well ahead of Lazio in terms of their match sharpness.

Lazio have some real talent in their starting XI, with the likes of Felipe Anderson and Antonio Candreva supplying Miroslav Klose up-front. However, Leverkusen come in to the game in form and with competitive match fitness, which could be the difference.

We say: Leverkusen to win at 17/10 with Bet365
