Champions League preview – Manchester City vs Sevilla prediction

Having played well on the weekend, striker Wilfried Bony is likely to continue up-front in the absence of injured forward Sergio Aguero. David Silva and Samir Nasri are both out, which should mean an attacking three of Jesus Navas, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling. Captain Vincent Kompany could make a return to the defence.

Sevilla are definitely without Daniel Carrico, Sergio Escudero and Gael Kakuta for the trip to the Etihad Stadium. Striker Fernando Llorente and Luismi are rated as doubtful but may be able to feature from the bench. Manager Unai Emery may opt to pack the midfield and attempt to catch City on the break.

Possible Line-ups

Manchester City: 4-2-3-1 formation: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Mangala, Sagna; Fernandinho, Toure; Navas, De Bruyne, Sterling; Bony

Sevilla: 4-5-1 formation: Rico; Tremoulinas, Rami, Kolodzieczak, Coke; Krychowiak, Iborra, Reyes, N’Zonzi, Vitolo; Gameiro

Prediction

Manchester City currently sit third in Champions League Group D and are level on 3 points with opponents Sevilla. Once again, Manchester City have looked far from convincing in European competition this season. The defeat at home to Juventus could easily have been followed up by another defeat at Borussia M.Gladbach and the feeling was that City were lucky to come away with the points. However, recent form has been good and since the heavy defeat at Spurs, Manuel Pellegrini’s team have won all three of their games, scoring 13 goals in the process.

Sevilla are still struggling in the bottom half of the La Liga table and only managed to come away with a point at Eibar on the weekend. There have been defeats to the likes of Las Palmas and Celta Vigo but also victories over Borussia M.Gladbach and Barcelona, which shows how Sevilla can defeat good teams on their day but are also capable of being beaten by teams they feel they shouldn’t. However, the club have had injury problems this season and that may have played a part.

On paper, this should be a Manchester City win but all things considered, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Sevilla head back to Spain with a point.
