Champions League preview – PSG vs Chelsea prediction.

Paris St Germain defender Serge Aurier has been suspended by the club for comments made against the manager and teammates on social media. Gregory van der Weil returned from injury to displace Aurier at right back on Saturday and is expected to be in the lineup against Chelsea. Marco Veratti and Javier Pastore also returned at the weekend to leave Laurent Blanc with a full strength team when the Champions League resumes on Tuesday.

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink is hoping the injury John Terry suffered against Newcastle will clear in time for the trip to Paris. He is already one centre back short with the loss of Kurt Zouma who has a serious knee ligament injury. Diego Costa played with a broken nose on Saturday and is the only senior striker available. January signing Alexander Pato is still working his way to match fitness while Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao are out injured.

Possible Line-ups

PSG 4-3-3 formation: Trapp; van der Weil, Marquinhos, Luiz, Kurzawa; Verrati, Motta, Matuidi; Cavani, Ibrahimovic, di Maria

Chelsea 4-2-3-1 formation: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas; Hazard, Willian, Pedro; Costa

Prediction

PSG were held to a drab 0-0 draw at Parc Des Princes by Lille on Saturday to end a run of 17 successive victories in all competitions. Laurent Blanc’s side has little opposition as it races to another Ligue 1 title and is best measured by performances in the Champions League. PSG defeated Malmo and Shakhtar Donetsk home and away without conceding a goal. They finished second in Group A after drawing 0-0 against Real Madrid in Paris before losing 1-0 in Madrid.

Chelsea look to be hitting form at the right time. The Blues are undefeated under interim coach Guus Hiddink and are shaking off the draw habit as shown with victories against Arsenal and Newcastle in the last four Premier League games. Chelsea qualified as winners of Group G with a similar record to PSG – W4 D1 L1. Chelsea’s defeat came in Porto where they lost 2-1 despite controlling most of the game, a familiar story during a poor run of results in the first half of the season.

The lineups will be very similar to when these sides met at the same stage last season. PSG progressed on the away goal rule after both games finished level and this could be another undecided fixture.
