Champions League football tips – Sporting Lisbon vs CSKA Moscow prediction

Sporting Lisbon have a couple of players missing for this match, with the big loss being commanding midfielder, William Carvalho. Defender, Ewerton, is also out but otherwise, Sporting manager Jorge Jesus, should have a full squad to select from.

CSKA Moscow do not have much in the way on injuries and suspensions to worry about for the trip to Lisbon and should be able to field a near full-strength team. That could mean an attacking three of Tosic, Eremenko and Dzagoev, playing in support of Musa up-front.

Probable Line-ups

Sporting Lisbon: 4-2-2-2 formation: Patricio; Pereira, Oliveira, Naldo, Jefferson; Joao Mario, A. Silva; Carrillo, Ruiz; Gutierrez, Slimani

CSKA Moscow: 4-2-3-1 formation: Akinfeev; M. Fernandes, Ignashevich, V. Berezutski, Nababkin; Natcho, Wernbloom; Tosic, Eremenko, Dzagoev; Musa

  • Sporting Lisbon have won 6 and drawn 4 of their last 10 matches
  • CSKA Moscow have won 8, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sporting Lisbon have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 0.7 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, CSKA Moscow have scored an average of 1.9 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Sporting Lisbon’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of CSKA Moscow’s previous 10 matches
  • The teams last met in the UEFA Cup final in 2005 and CSKA Moscow won 3-1

Sporting have carried over their great form from the end of last season are now 19 matches unbeaten in all competitions. Furthermore, Sporting have a very strong home record in Europe, losing just 1 of their previous 20 matches, which was to Chelsea and drawing 4 of them. Considering their decent defensive unit, Sporting will be aiming to take a lead to Russia, without conceding a goal.

CSKA Moscow are much further in to their domestic season than Sporting and have a 100% record to date, winning all 5 of their league matches. CSKA also came through the Champions League qualifying rounds, meaning they have experience of European competition already this season.  They did well to come back from a 2-2 home draw, to defeat Sparta Prague 3-2 away.

This is going to be a very close match and with Sporting eager not to concede before travelling to Russia, they could come away with a narrow win in-front of their own fans.

We say: Sporting to win by 1 goal at 13/5 with Bet365
